Manager Ronnie Moore has a desire to remain as Athletic manager. Moore is keen to complete the job he has begun at Boundary Park and the 52-year-old hopes to keep his assistant John Breckin to help him succeed. Moore told the Chronicle, “Once you have started something and put the foundations down you would like to see the building erected. I am hoping to sit down soon with the owners, but it will be down to what they want. They brought John and myself in to help keep us up and we are well on the way to achieving that, though we still need four more points. I have enjoyed my time here and see no reason why I shouldn’t stay. There are good people in charge and they want to take the club in the right direction. I think the club is geared to getting out of this division - and I am talking about getting into the Championship as opposed to League Two! It simply needs someone to light the touch paper.”

Lots of rumours are flying around and Athletic’s owners are quick to point out that Moore has not already been offered a two-year deal. Rumours are also linking Moore with the job at Barnsley currently being so successfully done by ex-Latics legend Andy Ritchie. Alan Hardy said, “In the four weeks Ronnie and John have been here they have done a tremendous job and they seem to be enjoying it. They seem very appreciative of the help they have received from the directors and it looks, from my position, like they are very interested in staying on here next season. But all our energies are concentrated on staying in League One and after that has been determined we sit down to discuss the future.”
