Athletic have disclosed the news that the majority of Latics fans have been waiting to hear "Oldham Athletic and Ronnie Moore have parted company." Fans favourite John Sheridan will take control with immediate effect

Managing director Simon Corney said that the decision was taken for "financial reasons." He said, "Clearly, a lot of fans had not taken to him and season ticket sales have been very slow. People seem to think we have vast sums of money but, unfortunately, that is not the case. Yes, we have a bit but there is a limit and we have to work within certain constraints. At the end of the day it was a financial decision."

"It wasn't a pleasant job telling Ronnie and he was shocked. There is no doubt that he had some unbelievable injury problems throughout last season. Furthermore, we asked for stability and he had succeeded on that issue. John Sheridan has always had a good rapport with the fans and likes to play entertaining football. I hope our decision will go a long way to boosting season ticket sales and help towards the revenue that will always be needed to continue to take our club forward."
