Tranmere Rovers have appointed ex-Latics boss Ronnie Moore as their new manager. Ronnie, 53, played for Tranmere in the 1970's and 1980's and made almost 300 appearances for the club, and managed to score 34 goals in the 1975-76 season. Moore was then sold to Cardiff City for a club record fee of £120,000.

He became Assistant Manager to Johnny King in the 1990's and then went on to manage Rotherham United, where he guided them to successive promotions from Division Three to Division One, before moving on to Oldham Athletic.

He never really bonded with the Oldham faithful and was fired for "financial reasons" when season ticket sales plummeted to a huge downturn on the previous season.

Tranmere Chairman Lorraine Rogers said, "The Board of Directors are delighted Ronnie has agreed to become our Manager as he was our first choice for the position. He was the only candidate with experience of League One and the Championship and who had managed a team to promotion out of our division."
