Moore orders clearout

After a record 10 signings and with a surplus of players in some positions Ronnie Moore has decided to unload the players who will not be figuring in his immediate plans. The players will be made available for free transfers or will be allowed to go out on loan. Athletic are nearing their limit on the new 'salary cap' and still hope to bring in another big name striker so something has to give to make financial sense. They still also need to add another goalkeeper to the squad as Les Pogliacomi is the only recognised keeper with any experience on the books.

Moore explained, “I’ve got an idea of what my best team will be, and obviously certain players aren’t in it. Their names have been circulated to other clubs and they can leave permanently or on loan. I don’t want their names in the paper, but it’s fair to say they aren’t all young lads – some are quite experienced. It will be fine if nothing happens and they all end up staying, but I want to see what sort of response we get. There are players who I don’t see being involved, so we might as well try to get them out and make way for someone else. I want that top-class striker, but the money we’ve got available will dictate the quality we bring in.”

With the transfer window closing next month the Latics currently have 22 players under contract.
