Moore rushed to hospital

There was a shock for Latics boss Ronnie Moore who was taken into a Sheffield Hospital after suffering from a kidney problem. He was given extensive tests and has subsequently been passed A1 and told that the problem will clear up with time. The tests interfered with Athletics pre-season visit to Middlesbrough.

The visit to Boro was the latest in a series of pre-season build up matches. Just as the Stockport game it was a game of three 30-minute periods. The result was immaterial but the Latics went down 1-0 to a wonder goal from Franck Queudrue. Killen and Porter showed well though both missed chances in the third period, and Pogliacomi, rumoured to be on his way out of Boundary Park, played well with the Latics goalkeeping coach shouting orders from the sideline throughout the game. Griffin, Hughes and Warne also looked good.
