Ronnie Moore was upbeat after the teams visit to Ibiza in the San An Cup. Although disappointed with their inability to finish off Wycombe Wanderers in the final, he was positive about the commitment of the team.

Fitness was always top of his agenda and he said, "I have been delighted with their attitude. They have had to endure some very hard training sessions in difficult conditions but they never once wavered in their commitment. I learned a lot about one or two players - and it is better to find out now than when the season gets us way in a month’s time. Obviously we are disappointed as we came out to win the cup. As management and players it should hurt that we haven´t done so. In the first half we did reasonably well other than failing to take the chances we created. We were over-run in the second half when Wycombe changed to 4-3-3 and we couldn’t cope with that system. I was also disappointed with the goal we conceded. It came from a free kick from 50 yards and we allowed their player (Roger Johnson) a free header.”

“If we lose on penalties I would prefer it to be here rather than in the final of the play-offs, so hopefully we have got it out of our system. I don’t think I have seen four worse penalties and even the one we scored (Richard Butcher) went under the body of the keeper.”

The trip also gave Moore an opportunity to take a good look at the two trialists, Joe Murphy and Andy Todd. Goalkeeper Murphy (West Brom) picked up a calf strain which limited his playing time. He had to be replaced after only 20 minutes of the Wycombe game. Former Nottingham Forest trainee Todd (Hucknall Town) scored a hat trick against San Jose and picked up the goalscoring award from the tournament. Moore was impressed enough to offer Todd an extended trial if he can arrange to take the time off work.
