More strikers names touted

If the Oldham Chronicle is to believed, the Latics are looking at the following strikers, Jamie Cureton, Chris Greenacre and Darren Byfield. If the Chronicle is correct, contact with the players’ agents has already been made and wage demands are being currently being considered.

Cureton (pictured) has scored nearly 150 career goals and is currently with Queens Park Rangers and is available on a free. Although he made 30 appearances for the Rangers he was invariably on the bench for most of last season. Greenacre is also available on a free as his three year deal at Stoke is just about up but he will not be offered new terms as he struggled to make the Championship teams starting line up. He scored a total of nine goals for Stoke. Byfield worked with Ronnie Moore at Rotherham so the manager knows all about him. He was at Gillingham last year but his six goals could not prevent the Gills being relegated.

Moore said, “We are at an early stage with these lads and, as always, there could be a fair bit of competition. I’m interested to know what sort of money they are looking for, and we’ll take it from there. There are all sorts of names in the hat – we are at different stages with different people – and it’s impossible to know what will happen. I’ll get an experienced striker from somewhere, but I won’t just dive in for the sake of it.”
