Muzza could play his last game

Paul Murray could make his final appearance for Athletic at Notts County and he has been speaking about his future. He said, “From getting the guts ripped out of the team last summer, the manager leaving and all the financial difficulties, we look back and think we've done well. We can't take any pride from that though, we can't say we've been successful staying in Division two because we want to do better than that and hopefully if the gaffer can bring in the right players we'll be up there challenging. I'm getting an offer back off the club this week and I'll sit down and think about it. I've got other options, I'm not going to lie. The club know what I'm looking for and I want to see where the club's going and what the gaffer's doing but I will sit down and think about the offers and decide.”

“Looking at it, I could have ended up going for £50,000. I stayed here and dug it out and we've survived whether that was a helping hand in the team staying up. I hope it was. I wanted to see what Brian had to say and what kind of fella he was. Since working with him for the last 11 games it's been very good. It's not about the money, it's about my ambition and where I want to play football and what options I've got. I came here two years ago from Southampton because I wanted to play games and when I arrived I was promised by the former chairman that we'd be a First Division club. I'm convinced that the new owners number one target is to get to the first division and obviously that's where I want to play my football. If the club was in Division One now, I'd probably have signed already but as I say it's another year in Division two. Hopefully it will be a succesful one but there are three clubs that are going to offer me First Division football straight away.”

“Obviously the team spirit here is a factor, last season we had an unbelievable bunch of lads and I thought that couldn't be matched but I was wrong. The new lads have come in and the lads who stayed have grown in character and
they're as good a bunch of lads as last year in the promotion push and that does have a bearing. The old gaffer's (Mick Wadsworth) going out to a club in Portugal, but talk of me going out there are just rumours at the moment. I know he hasn't signed yet and I haven't had any negotiations with them. I know he would like me to go out there but he hasn't even got the job yet.”
