New backroom staff appointed

Now that Brian Talbot has completed his transfer market dealings he is focusing on his backroom staff. He said, “The infrastructure is looking quite good now, which is vitally important for any well-run football club. Most people only see what happens on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon, but it’s important to progress as a club as well as a team. I have worked hard on these areas because I want everything to be organised as professionally as possible. I also want to improve the dressing room, the treatment room and our training facilities. If you do things properly off the pitch, it can only help when you are on it and trying to win games.”

Talbot has brought in Stuart Naylor who played for Talbot at West Brom. Naylor will take the role as goalkeeping coach. He has also appointed a new chief scout in Cyril Lee and a full-time kit man in Alan Jackson. Lee worked with Talbot at Rushden and Diamonds and Jackson was at Halifax. Tony Philliskirk (his youth team won the league and cup double last season) will have a permanent assistant in former Latics player Mark Hilditch who helped out last season. The final piece of the jigsaw will be to appoint a new club physiotherapist which should happen soon.
