New owner Simon Corney said, “It’s very difficult because this is a major decision and the first big one we have taken since arriving. Put it this way – our decision on who should be manager has been much harder than our decision to buy the club. There’s a short to medium-term plan which the manager must agree with so that, hopefully, we can realise our dreams together. That means there’s no guarantee of instant success. We want to grow the club sensibly, not aim for a quick promotion by taking lots of risks. We’ve outlined those thoughts to all our candidates because it’s important they know exactly how we want to operate. They should also understand our plans for building the team, developing the ground and the overall stability of the club. You can never be sure how things will work out but, as club owners, we know this is an appointment we’ll be judged on personally. It has been extremely difficult, but we need to find someone we feel confident of working with – someone who gives us good vibes.”
New manager will be unveiled soon

John Sheridan (pictured) has now had 11 games in charge and will again take charge for the trip to Bournemouth. His record to date is three wins, five draws and three defeats but safety from relegation is still not assured. Mr. Corney added, “John has been terrific and he’s the kind of man we very much want at the club. We noted what he said in the Chronicle about staying here whatever happens – and, if he doesn’t eventually get the job, we’d like him to assist whoever comes in.”
