New owner takes charge

The new owner of Oldham Athletic completed his takeover of the club on Friday but it was not a happy debut for Abdallah Lemsagam as his new team lost 2-1 at home to Plymouth Argyle. It was not the expected result and he, along with the long suffering fans, must have been very disappointed with the continuing bad run of results.

With the transfer deadline approaching Lemsagam is set to recruit at least two more players as the ex-agent has a good relationship with the owner of French club Nantes. Full backs Wilfried Moimbe and Enock Kwateng are both to join the club and are expected at Boundary Park very soon. With former teammate, Dutch forward Queensy Menig, on loan at Oldham the duo are looking forward to joining ties again. The new owner is also looking to add a Swedish player along with the recent resigning of Eoin Doyle and the new loanee, Haiti striker Duckens Nazon, from Wolves.

Full details of the takeover have not been revealed but it is rumoured that he now owns 97% of the football club which does not include the stadium. Former owner Simon Corney is also rumoured to be ‘staying on’ as chairman for the time being and club have quoted him as saying, “Mr Corney believes that he has found the man to take the club forward... one with the resources and contacts to do so.”

Lemsagam replied, “I am not a billionaire. I’m not putting a lot of money in left and right. I hope I can make it profitable, but I’m not promising to do it straight away. I loved this club since the day I came here. It was always my dream to be a president of the club.”
