No appeal on red card

There is to be no appeal over Sean Gregan's sending off at Hartlepool last Saturday. The influential Gregan was shown the red card 74 minutes into game after a foul on Richie Jones. The referee later confirmed that the player had been dismissed for serious foul play, an infraction which carries an automatic three match ban. The suspension means that on-form Greegs will miss the clashes against Huddersfield, Stockport and Hereford.

The ban will be a blow to manager John Sheridan as Gregan has been an influential player who has contributed well to this season's success and the Latics current unbeaten run. The sending off gave a chance for recent signing Ritchie Byrne to show what he has, and he came into the game and slotted into central defence whilst giving a competent display.

As defender Stefan Stam is now available after recovering from a groin strain he could also come into the running for a starting place as could John Thompson. Gregan will be available again for the Leicester City home game on 18th. October.
