Jimmy Nicholl has emerged as a major contender for the role of being number two to new manager Lee Johnson.
Nicholl, the ex-Manchester United defender, is 56 and formerly managed Raith Rovers and Millwall.
His current position is as is assistant to Kenny Shiels at Kilmarnock.
