The Latics lost 1-0 in the final of the Isle of Man Tournament to newly promoted Carlisle United. In a much more physical game than their first one, the Latics played a different style and struggled. They should have taken the lead through Warne early on but his header was misdirected. Carlisle got the winner in the 30th. minute from a free kick which confused the defence and swerved in past Murphy. The Latics should have had a penalty for a blatant hand ball on the stroke of half time but their appeals were dismissed.

Oldham upped the tempo in the second half and Eyres headed just over before Beckett, Eyres (again) and Liddell all could have sneaked an equaliser. The effort was better but it just wasn't going right. Carlisle also had a couple of chances but couldn't complete them. It went worse for the Latics when Luke Beckett went down from a tackle like a sack of spuds, waving furiously to the bench. He was carried off with a suspected medial ligament injury which will need rehabilitation to maintain his leg muscle strength and mobility. It is bad news for the Latics and the incident effectively finished off the game on a sour note.
