Blackpool made easy meat of Latics in the northern final of the LDV Vans Trophy in front of 3,349 supporters. Oldham were not helped by the early dismissal (again) of Darren Sheridan who was sent off for a professional foul in the 25th. minute.

Oldham started well enough and went into a third minute lead through a Duxbury (pictured) header after an Allan Smart cross but Walker hit two to put the visitors ahead. David Eyres equalised again from a Smart cross but then it was all Blackpool and Murphy and Bullock scored before Walker completed his hat-trick in the 88th. minute.

Wadsworth said, “I thought that the sending off was questionable - referee's are making it harder and harder for players to tackle each other. But Blackpool played very well and I can't criticise Darren Sheridan too much because I thought the contact was minimal.”
