Oldham boss John Sheridan disappointed by draw

Jonathan Forte fired agonisingly wide in the first half and with 17 minutes to go Danny Lafferty was denied by Blackpool goalkeeper Dean Lyness as Oldham pushed for a winner

They could not find one though, much to Sheridan's frustration as his side remain in the League One relegation zone

"I'm really disappointed we haven't got three points," Sheridan said

"It's hard to take, the lads are down, I'm down, because we deserved three points.

"We are trying to win the game and be positive and we tried to get forward and create chances.

"When I'm looking at the games we've been involved in I'm saying 'how the hell are you in the bottom four'.

"When I'm looking at the performances they've shown me they should be in and around the top eight for me.

"There's a reason why we're down there and we've got to be clever and make better decisions sometimes

It's really disappointing because I think we should have won."

Oldham are now unbeaten in three games, picking up five points in the process, but Sheridan believes they should have more

"The performance was very good again but the only thing we're missing is goals

We've had three clean sheets in the last three games," he added

"It's a worry that we keep drawing because we need to win

We need points to get us out of where we are.

"But I've got to stay positive, the performances are good and we've just got to keep the way we've been playing."

Blackpool also came close with Jim McAllister's header backheeled onto the post by Lafferty while Martin Paterson saw a late header saved by Joel Coleman, but boss Neil McDonald was more than happy to secure a point

"It was a hard-earned point that's for sure," McDonald said

"Oldham are a very hard team to score against, we had a few chances but we didn't take them but we'll gladly take the point and move on.

"We didn't play very well when we had the ball

We didn't pass it well enough or find a man in the space but they are a close defensive unit.

"It's going to be difficult to break everybody down

We're more pleased with the point but disappointed we didn't get the three with the two or three chances we had.

"It was a well-earned point

Defensively we were a lot more solid than against Shrewsbury and a clean sheet is always good

The back five were excellent tonight.

"There are different ways to try and win a game and counter-attacking is a big part of our game

I'm not saying Oldham sat in but they came with a game plan to stop us counter-attacking."
