Owen to extend loan or become permanent fixture

Ronnie Moore is making enquiries that may see currently on loan defender Gareth Owen a permanent fixture at Boundary Park. Owen, on loan from Stoke for another two weeks, is initially being requeted to extend his loan until the end of the season. Athletic are unbeaten since the 22 year old centre-back joined and has impressed the boss enough for him to try to sign him on a permanent deal.

Moore told the official site, “He’s a cracking player, so we need to talk to Stoke and see what can be done. He wins an awful lot of headers and copes very well with the physical side of the game. He's an old fashioned defender and there's not that many of them about. Gareth is the sort of player we need — he’s just a young kid at the moment but he gives his all. He's a left-footed player playing right side of centre half and doesn't look out of place there. I would like to sign him permanently, though it might be down to the owners because I doubt Stoke would allow a player of his ability to leave for nothing.”
