Stoke City have agreed to extend defender Gareth Owens stay at Athletic for a further month. The 21 year old has featured in four league games and his current deal was to expire after the Port Vale game on Saturday. The Potters have inserted a 24 hour re-call clause into the agreement should they require his services.

David Eyres said, “It's great news. When we were looking to bring someone in we spoke to Clint Hill and he recommended Gareth. Since he came into the side he's done well and it's good to get him for a longer period.”

A delighted Owen said, “I'm overjoyed. I wanted to stay as soon as John Sheridan mentioned the possibility. I had no hesitation in wanting to stay longer. Things have gone well so far and hopefully we can get some more wins and start moving up the table.”
