Five players have been released from Boundary Park as Dave Penney begins to build his new squad. Marching orders have been given to J.P. Kalala, Lee Hughes and Kevin Maher. They join Mark Crossley and Andy Liddell who have already departed from the club. In addition, loan players Daniel Jones and Ian Westlake have returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cheltenham Town respectively.

Other players still awaiting deals are Mark Allott (pictured) and Stefan Stam who have now met with the new manager and Allott is considering a one year deal which is currently on the table. Penney paid tribute to Gregan, who was Athletic's top earner, when he said, "Sean is a great professional. He has done well for this football club and we wish him all the best for the future. But I want to freshen things up and put my own stamp on the team. I am looking for young, hungry, fit and athletic players."
