Porter out again?

Chris Porter could be out of action again this weekend. The Latics leading scorer has hit 20 goals so far this season but then dried up. After picking up a knee injury in training he has now missed the last two games and manager John Sheridan is not a happy man, and fired a broadside at the injured striker.

Sheridan confessed, "Injured players are no good to me. Chris is with the physio at the moment, and Lee Nobes will tell me when he's ready to come back. He is struggling with a small niggle, and it's just not right at the moment. All players are different. Some, like Richie Wellens, would play with a knock but others don't feel comfortable."

Porter has quelled rumours that he is not happy at Boundary Park. He has been linked with Stoke City but his agent has a lot of answering to do as he has instigated a lot of the unrest linked with the striker.

Porter said, "The injury's driving me insane. I did a bit on it yesterday which is a good sign, and I'm hoping I'll be available for Saturday. It's touch and go at the moment though. I'll have a word with the physio but it's not clear whether I'll be able to play yet. I've had some pain on the outside of my knee, nothing to do with the old injury, and had an injection to try and settle it down. It worked a bit, but not as much as I'd hoped. Apart from that, we've been doing stretches on it, massage and acupuncture which have all helped. I just want to get back and start scoring goals again. I've got 20 so far but I'm not happy with that. I want to score a few more this season."
