Porter pipped at the post

Athletic's revived striker Chris Porter has been pipped at the post by Bristol City's Scott Brown for the League One player of the year award for September. Porter has been if fine form of late and has silenced any doubters with a great display of clinical finishing since he returned to the team. Porter hit five goals in the first month of his comeback.

Porter said, "I'm enjoying myself. It's good to be back. I'm really enjoying things. I'm almost injury-free so I hope I can push on and beat my biggest previous tally. The most I've ever scored in one season is ten, on two occasions, while I was at Bury, so I'll be looking to improve on that. To be honest I didn't know about it until a friend phoned me up and told me. Obviously it'd be nice to pick up the award. I'll be doing my best to bag another goal at Doncaster. They are a decent side who have spent quite a bit of money, but hopefully we can get a result."
