Pre Season Preview - Brentford

Last updated : 03 July 2005 By The Chairman
Today we continue to preview some of our League One counterparts. We asked all the teams what they thought that the coming season holds for them. Brentford is the next in our series.

1) How did you fare last season? Best moment, worst moment etc.
Well I think it's fair to say that we majorly over achieved! Finishing 4th was a great achievement for us I'm just disapointed that so many games took their toll on our players and we couldnt make it past Sheff Wed in the play off semis. I think just reaching the playoffs was our finest moment, probably alongside drawing 2-2 with saints in the cup, nobody had expected us to get that far or finish in such a high position. We went though some lows before hand though, we lost some 'easier' games and had major inconsistency throughout the season.

2) How do you think you'll do this season? Hopes, final position.
Back to basics I think, survival is our number on aim, the quicker we get to 50 odd points the quicker we can start aiming higher, I would expect us to have a mid table season, but I'd hope that we could reach the playoffs again, not sure if it will happen though.

3) What's your squad like, new signings, etc?
Minimalist, is the word I'd use to describe our squad! Seven players out, five in! We've made some good signs in Paul Brooker and Lloyd Owusu but we still need to strengthen. Hopefully Martin Allen has some more summer raids planned or even more promisingly he thinks that our youth players can handle the pressure of League One football.

4) Which youngster will make the biggest impression in your team
He's been a youngster for the last 3 or 4 years now but I reckon that Jay Tabb for us will shine this season. He played well in patches last year and if he can find some consistency then he has a great future ahead of him. We also played our youth team against Hull in the last game of last season any number of those players has the potential to be a star as well.

5) What's your manager like and will he still be there at the end of the season?
We hope so! There was talk a couple of week ago that he wouldnt be here at the start of the season but now Martin Allen seems fully commited to the cause! He's a great manager, all the fans love him and in the last two years he's done a great job. He not only saved us from relegation but he then transfered us into a force in this league, long may his reign continue.

6) Are you happy with your Chairman/Backroom staff?
Yeh perfectly. We've put a new structure in place this season and they seem to be working well. The chairman works hard with the manager to give him any financially backing he may need and he's very supportive to him as well, which is exactly what you need.

7) Which team do you want to beat the most and why?
Either Blackpool or Bradford. They did the double over us last season and I have no idea how, so beating them twice this year would be wonderful. Saying that though, we dont have any real rivalries with anyone in this League. I'd just like to beat the 'top' teams because that makes us more likely to be in contention come May.

8) Predict your champions and runner up, the 4 Play-Off teams and the 4 to go down.
Champions: Tranmere, 2nd Forest
Playoffs: Brentford, Walsall, Gillingham, Hartlepool
Relegated: Scunthorpe, Southend, MK Dons, Chesterfield.
