Pre-season preview

My thoughts on last season

Last season was pretty terrible in the League. It was thought that we would do so much more than only just stay up. In the end, injuries and (partly) bad managing put paid to any ambitions of promotion or a top-half finish.

In the Cup Latics fared better - leading to the best moment when Oldham beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup Third Round. This narrowly beats the sacking of Brian Talbot as Latics' best moment. Worst moment, the 2-1 loss to Torquay United, probably. There was a strong chance Oldham were going down after that.

How will Oldham do this season?

I reckon Oldham will do well this season. I said that we'd reach the playoffs last season, but my prediction was a bit off the mark. However, we've got a good squad and a good manager now. If we manage to sign Luke Beckett, we'll definitely have a good chance of promotion.

Thoughts on the squad

Oldham's squad has more depth than last season, despite losing players like Dean Holden and JJ (again). We have a few quality players in every position, and with players like David Eyres, Delroy Facey, Will Haining and Les Pogliacomi there's class there. Keeping Eyresy after looking like he was going was a big coup; now all we have to do is sign Luke Beckett (and another keeper) and our problems are over!

Young Player to watch

Chris Porter, our new signing from Bury. Ronnie's got high hopes for him; let's take a look and see what he's like.

Thoughts on the gaffer

Ronnie Moore's a great manager - look what he did at Rotherham. He is definitely the man for the job. I just hope that our board don't sack him if Latics don't get promoted this season.

What about the board?

I am still happy with the board. The "Three Amigo's" did save the club from extinction after all, and Latics fans from now on will have to thank th guys for what they've done. They also seem ambitious, what with ambitious stadium plans and plans for promotion. I just hope they're not too ambitious, as what Oldham needs at the moment is a bit of stability on the manager front.

The team I'd most like to beat is...

Huddersfield. I've got quite a few fans who support Huddersfield, it would be nice to beat them and rub their noses in it.

My predictions for this season

Champions: Bristol City
Runners up: Notts Forest
Playoffs (in no particular order): Huddersfield, Oldham, Brentford, Hartlepool
Relegated: MK Dons, Blackpool, Southend, Scunthorpe.
Though I also predict that these predictions are wrong!
