Dave Penney has brought in Rob Purdie on a two year deal from his old club Darlington Town. Purdie is a utility player who is 26 and was voted the player of the season by the Quaker's fans. Purdie told the official website, "When I got the call from the gaffer saying he was looking to bring me in, I had a look at Sky Sports News and I couldn't believe it, both in terms of the clubs currently in the division and those coming down. Clubs like Southampton, Charlton and Norwich will all be in this league next year and it's huge. I would say it's probably the best time to be playing at this level and I can't wait to get started."

"In the first friendly I could be playing anywhere, from right back to left midfield! I'm absolutely delighted to be here. I know the gaffer inside out and I'm looking forward to a successful couple of years - and hopefully the play-offs, at least. Dave is a very hands-on manager who likes to get involved in the training session and works well with players as individuals as well. I'm sure he will do a good job here. He has played me pretty much anywhere; it's up to me to make sure I am consistent wherever I play and hopefully hold down a starting position in one particular area. I am a hard worker who likes to pass and move. I like to bomb forward whenever I can, whilst being aware of my defensive responsibilities and that side of the game. One thing is for sure and that is I will try my hardest for the gaffer wherever he asks me to play. I don't know many of the lads here - I've played against Danny Whitaker before - but I'm looking forward to getting involved in the week of training that's coming up and forging some friendships."

The manager commented, "I've worked with Rob over the last two years so obviously I know him well. He plays in any position barring goalkeeper and centre-half, he's good with both feet, he's a good age and he's a great footballer. The player of the year award he got last year is testament to a player from whom I know what I'm going to get week in, week out. He is very consistent and players with the ability to be versatile will be vital to us if we're running with a smaller squad next season. I'm delighted to get Rob on board. I know he's very much looking forward to the challenge and we look forward to having him here. Sometimes being able to play in many positions hampers players, but not Rob. He is a bonus for me as a manager in that he can move around and cover for injuries and suspensions. I like players with a great work ethic and I want my team to be fit and hard-working. Rob fits into all those categories and he has the quality to go with it."
