Reserve side the way forward

Last weeks revelation that the Latics could field a reserve team has been well received by assistant coach Tommy Wright. He sees a massive benefit to the club and commented, “With the numbers that we’ve got in the building at the moment we need a reserve team. We will arrange a game probably each week to keep people ticking over. We’ll keep looking at these lads progressing, especially the foreign players as they adjust to a new division. It is different for them, League One will be at lot different from France or in Holland. It’s just gauging how they will adjust to it, how they progress, and obviously the only way to do that is by playing games.”

“The way to progress if you’re one of the best players of the youth team to progress to the under 23s or the reserves then to the first team, that’s always how it works. Jay Sheridan and Frankie Antoine scored against Everton and it’s good for their confidence because they came in and did well. It’s just a learning curve and an advancement of their careers.”
