Results go for Latics

Last nights results were a major boost to all Latics fans as well as the clubs chances of promotion. Rivals Bristol City suffered their first defeat in 17 matches as Cheltenham scored their first ever victory at Ashton Gate. Basement strugglers Cheltenham had previously lost their last seven last league matches. In another shock of the night, Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 at Carlisle. Even more worrying for them was the fact that have now gone eight and a half hours without an away goal to their name. It's all starting to fall into place.

Athletic entertain Ronnie Moore's Tranmere side on Saturday in a game which they hope will avenge the disasterous early season defeat at Prenton Park. Ex-manager Moore is expecting the worst from his old supporters as he locks horns with John Sheridan.

Moore said, "I'm looking forward to it and know I'm going to get some stick. If we get the right result on Saturday, I'll certainly milk it. It's going to be a meaty game. We did have a tremendous record defensively in the first half of the season and we need to keep a clean sheet. There are 16 games to go, an awful lot of points to get and it's crucial that there are no more slip ups. The Championship is definitely on my mind and if we can get 12 points in the next few weeks that will take us there."

We at Footy Mad can't fully get our head round the last sentence but Mr. Moore always did come out with some classic comments.
