An injury to Mark Crossley meant a rush to provide goalkeeping cover before the Latics trip to Luton. Having failed in a bid to bring Manchester City's keeper Kasper Schmeichel, John Sheridan swooped in to sign Richard O'Donnell from Sheffield Wednesday and gave him his debut in the 3-0 hammering at Kenilworth Road. The 6'-2" 19 year old keeper signed a seven day deal on emergency loan. Previously on loan at Buxton, York City and Rotherham, he has yet to make his first-team debut for the Owls.

Athletic also have youth team keeper Josh Bell as goalkeeping cover. O'Donnell said, "I have spoken to John Sheridan on the phone and I am looking forward to meeting him and the team before the Luton match. It has been a funny one this season, not playing many competitive games but I am really looking forward to playing and just can't wait to get out there."
