Paul Rickers, Athletic's longest-serving player, has been told he can leave on a free transfer. Currently recovering from a broken ankle Rickers has also been told that there is a chance of him staying for another year if terms can be agreed.

The 27-year-old has played over 300 league and cup matches since making his debut under Joe Royle in 1994 although he has only started one game, against Barrow in the FA Cup, since Mick Wadsworth took over the reigns. Should Rickers decide to leave it would be under the Bosman ruling as his contract runs out in the next few weeks.
