Ronnie Moore has hit a blank wall

Ronnie Moore has hit a blank wall in his search for new strikers. Losing out on Heffernan (Doncaster) and Noel-Williams (Burnley), latest target Wrexham’s Juan Ugarte (pictured) is now having talks with Crewe. Moore has almost given up the ghost on signing Luke Beckett and to throw further oil on the fire Coventry’s Andy Morrell has stated that he would prefer to stay in the Championship.

Moore said of his nightmarish search, “The strikers we’re interested in are looking for sides in the Championship – the bigger players want bigger moves. We would have signed a few if we were up there ourselves, but it can be a nightmare trying to get them here. To have success and win promotion in our division, you need a couple of strikers who can score you 20 goals a season. We could still get hold of them, but it’s a difficult job so we might need to drop lucky."

"With only Chris Killen and Delroy Facey, it makes strikers the top priority and I’m doing my best to get things sorted out quickly. If we can bring in the people we want, we won’t be far away from a squad who could challenge at the top. We are okay defensively and we’ve got Richie Wellens, Mark Hughes, Richard Butcher and Mark Bonner for central midfield. Out wide is a bit bare, but there are some irons in the fire and I also want to see if Adam Griffin can play as a winger instead of a left-back.”
