Rovers curse strikes again

The curse of Bristol Rovers struck Athletic once again as they went down 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium. They have enjoyed little success against the Pirates in recent history and goals from Rickie Lambert and Chris Lines gave the Pirates their third successive victory over the Latics.

Manager John Sheridan told Latics World, "We came here to try and get something, but when you give goals away like that it's always going to be an uphill battle. If anything I thought we were the better team tonight, but at the end of the day we've lost the game 2-0. We can't give goals away and expect to get back into the game every time, but we've had some very good chances."

"I looked at the stats - shots, crosses, that kind of thing - after the game, and you'd think we were the home team. It's puzzling and very frustrating. We haven't worked the ball well enough and done what we were supposed to do, which is score goals. It was about both boxes tonight. We didn't defend well enough in our box and didn't want to score enough in theirs."
