Sacking is down to fan power

Simon Corney has admitted that the sacking of Ronnie Moore is down to fan power. With season ticket sales down by £150,000 it was obvious that something was wrong on the field and in the dressing room. Rumours that linked Moore with the vacant jobs at Rotherham and Tranmere only added fuel to the fire.

Corney said, “We had to decide if we were happy with each other, and we felt it was in our best interests to part company. Revenue is vital for the club and the drop in season ticket sales was worrying. In fairness, it's been a hard year for Ronnie. He's had a trying time with a new baby, the death of his father and the illness of John Breckin's wife. But progress was made. We finished 10th. instead of 19th. and for a while we looked as if promotion was a possibility. We are aware, though, that he wasn't exactly popular with all the supporters and we have listened to them. Instead of going for another tried and tested manager, we're giving John Sheridan a chance. There is no magic formula, but he is very enthusiastic and we hope it will kick-start the club. The bottom line remains the same, though. We have a salary cap to work to and, while we'll continue to help John as much as we can, we need the fans on board.”

A compensation package for Ronnie Moore and his backroom team will be decided next week.
