The latest on the rumour mill is an 'exclusive' from Football Insider. If this long drawn-out deal finally comes off, it is seen as a turning point in the history of the club for many of the Latics faithful who have suffered through too many relegations since the glory years of the 1980/90s. The exclusive article is as follows:

“Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is set to be named the new Oldham manager in the next 24-48 hours. A move into management at Oldham has been mooted for some time for Scholes, but it is understood that a deal has been agreed between all parties for the former United midfielder to take his first steps into management. Scholes has a long affinity with Oldham and has been linked with the managerial role at Boundary Park on several occasions.”

“Academy boss Pete Wild has been in caretaker charge at Boundary Park since the sacking of Frankie Bunn last month and he guided the club to a famous FA Cup win over Fulham earlier this month. Oldham are currently in 13th spot in League One, eight points off the play-off spots [now in 14th place and 8 points off], and Scholes could take charge for the first time against Morecambe this weekend.”

“Scholes made 718 appearances for Manchester United, and scored 155 goals for the club during a glittering career at Old Trafford. The 44-year-old, who retired from playing in 2013 also won 66 caps for England.”
