Midfielder Steven Schumacher is set to remain at Boundary Park for another month at least. The Everton and England youth International captain has been a regular member of the first team squad at Goodison Park but has not yet made his first appearance for the Toffees. He has impressed the Latics staff enough in his two reserve matches to make them extend his loan period. With the Latics expected to announce a new manager before weekend, with Brian Talbot being the favourite, it would be folly to make any permanent signings. The new owners have promised to pay to acquire the right man for the job and they have also committed some limited finances for team building. It should be an interesting week.
