The search for the successor of John Sheridan has begun with Frankie Bunn currently the bookies' favourite. Ex-striker Bunn is 53-years-old and is currently coaching Huddersfield Town's U21s. Another ex-Latics player linked with the job is Newport County manager Warren Feeney who took over the role when John Sheridan left Newport to join Athletic!

Assistant manager Peter Shirtliff is also listed in the betting odds but, as yet, there is no confirmation as to whether he wants to stay on at Boundary Park. Former winger Rick Holden has also sent in his CV and formal application for the job. Rick has extensive experience and is currently head coach of the Isle of Man national team. He was also assistant manager to Andy Ritchie when the duo guided Barnsley to promotion.
