Sheridan accepts draw as a fair result

John Sheridan confessed that the 1-1 draw with Hudderfield Town was a fair reflection of the game, a fact confirmed by the statistics from the match. Both sides were very close in possession, shots, cards etc. Ian Craney gave the visitors the lead but a direct free kick from Andy Liddell (pictured) maintained Athletic's unbeaten start to the season and also resulted in the Latics retaining top dog spot in the league, albeit just by goal difference now.

Shez told Latics World, "A draw was a fair result. Huddersfield came here and they made it very difficult for us, so full credit to them. I was pleased with the response, coming back after going a goal down. I asked the players to give it a go at the break and we were better in the second half and looked the fitter team at the end. The tackles were flying but derby games always seem to produce that. There wasn't much quality but the effort was there and I'm proud of the lads for that."

"Huddersfield have got some good players and I think they're in a false position. I think Stan Ternent will get it right and they'll be a strong team in this division. I'm pleased to have got something out of the game. We're still top and I have to be pleased to be where we are now after eight games. Andy Liddell was being cute, as he always is. No-one closed him down so he struck it and hit it well. I think it caught the keeper off-guard and it was pleasing to see it end up in the back of the net. We try to win every game at home, but sometimes you have to be satisfied with what you've got and today I'm satisfied."
