Sheridan delighted by first win

The Latics won their first game of the season with a 68th. minute goal by on loan striker Maheta Molango. It could have been a different story as the linesman inexplicably flagged for a penalty and after the referee had consulted with him, he awarded the spot kick. It took a tremendous diving save by new keeper Chris Howarth to seal the win.

An obviously delighted John Sheridan commented, "I'm happy we got the goal and the three points. It doesn't matter how they go in. I'm very pleased with the performance. I thought all the lads were excellent. To be fair, the fans were different class again today. They can see the lads playing football how they think it should be played, and they're really getting behind us. I want us to play at a high tempo. We've certainly got the players to do so and we did that today. The lads in the dressing room are doing the right thing for me, and we're all in this together. I left a couple of them out today who probably didn't deserve to be left out, but we changed things around slightly, partially to counter Swansea's threat. I think you'll find they did the same for us too, despite their injury problems."
