Sheridan finally gets a central defender

Acting manager John Sheridan has finally ended his search for a central defender when he signed Gareth Owen on a month's loan from Stoke City. Sheridan had previously made requests to Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Everton and Charlton Athletic.

Owen comes with a good pedigree and is highly rated by former Latics star Clint Hill who played alongside him in Stoke’s reserve team win against Sheffield United this week. Owen is a Welsh Under 19’s International and his dominant style should ensure that he goes straight into the team for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday.
