Sheridan obviously delighted

John Sheridan was delighted with his team after the 3-0 win over Bournemouth. Lee Hughes hit a brace, the first one a cracking 30 yarder, and Chris Taylor popped the other goal. The win moves the Latics in the right direction after flirting with the relegation spots for most part of the season.

Sheridan told Latics World, "The three points are the most important thing, but I'm very pleased with the way we played. Going into the game as the away team, we knew Bournemouth didn't have a very good record at home and that we had to get at them. We put them under a lot of pressure and deserved the win. I think we should have scored in the first couple of minutes, and we hit the bar and had the better of the opportunities. Mark Crossley made a couple of good saves, but other than that we were very comfortable. I said to the players at half time that the game was there for the taking if we wanted it, and obviously we went on to score three goals."

"Mark made saves at vital times, but other than that he didn't have much to do. He made an important save at 0-0 and again just after we'd scored our first, but we thoroughly deserved to win the game. I don't think there was anything in Neal Trotman's challenge. Both players went for the ball, Neal won it and they collided. I wouldn't like to run into Neal Trotman because he's a big lad, but there was no intent there. Our main aim is to get clear of the relegation zone. We need to win as many games as possible, and if we do that we'll be okay. I think we're too good to be down here and I know we can beat anyone in this division on our day. Now we have to prove it."
