Sheridan over the moon

Latics manager John Sheridan was over the moon with his sides demolition of Leeds United on their home patch. He described the result as the best of his managerial career. Athletic had pulled off probably the result of the season by being the first team to win at Elland Road in ten months after they notched three first half goals to silence the home fans and put them firmly in the driving seat for the remainder of the game.

Reuben Hazell (pictured) scored a spectactular first goal and Neal Trotman headed in to make it 0-2 from a corner. Confusion in the Leeds defence, after Lee Hughes failed to get on the end of a low cross, allowed Andrew Hughes to scored an own goal for the third.

Sheridan told Latics World, "This is the best win of my managerial career so far. I've got a lot of fond memories of Leeds, they're a great club and I loved my time here. I'd love us both to go up if possible. I thought we played very well from start to finish and deserved to win the game. We could have even scored more goals. We were excellent. Reuben doesn't score many goals, and for him to score a goal like that is very pleasing for him and for us. Neal's always a threat at set pieces, and it was a good delivery from Neil Kilkenny and a good header. The main thing is he hit the target, and it went in. Then Craig's put the ball into a dangerous area and created problems for the keeper. People were wondering where the ball's going to go and fortunately for us it ended up in the back of the net."

"I said at half-time the game was 0-0 as far as I was concerned. I told the lads to pretend the game was 0-0 and not to get sloppy or laid-back. Unfortunately, Leeds came out and got off to a great start to the second half with a goal that was very sloppy from our point of view. But I can't fault my players because we were excellent. My only disappointment is that we didn't score more goals. From one to eleven and including the lads who came on as subs, everyone knew their jobs."
