John Sheridan appreciates that the Latics gave a good account of themselves in the 3-0 Carling Cup loss at Burnley. He told Latics World, "The scoreline will look like we were hammered, but far from it. I was very pleased with how we played up until the first goal. We were the better team and were taking the game to a very good Burnley side. But they're a good passing team and have players who take care of the ball very well. Of course I'm disappointed with the result but I can take positives. We had lots of chances but haven't scored again. I wouldn't say it's a worry at this moment in time but I think it'll make things a lot easier if we start hitting the back of the net. We could have scored two if three if we'd have been a bit more clinical."

"Their first goal knocked us a little bit, and it was very sloppy from our point of view. It's one of those that you think's going over the bar and then it just drops in the bottom corner. We were deflated but still created chances. I'm very positive and think we're improving with each game. I liked our work rate and how we took the game to a good Burnley side, but the downside is we're not scoring goals. With a bit of luck we'll start hitting the back of the net, and if we do that we'll be okay."
