Shez somewhat despondent

Although manager John Sheridans main objective from the Rose Bowl clash was fitness for the team, nevertheless he was somewhat despondent with the result as he felt his team gave the tie away. He told the official website, "I'm disappointed because I hate losing and we had the chances to win the game. Plus how many times have I talked about giving away sloppy goals? However, the main thing remains fitness and getting the lads to match standard. It's only early on, the lads will learn from their mistakes and they realise we've still got a lot of work to do."

"We had one or two very good chances, but with no disrespect to Rochdale with the team we've got we should be creating opportunities. We should be coming to Rochdale and winning, and that's said in the nicest possible way. I've said before that we'll continue to work very hard, and that will continue up in Scotland. Then I'll work more on my system, the way we're going to play and our defending during the games against Sheffield Wednesday and Macclesfield. I'm sure we will see an improvement in our performances over those two games."

"I still don't know my team, but I will by the time pre-season is over. Actually, one of the most pleasing aspects of tonight was the performance of the young lads. As I've always said, if they impress me and they're ready, I'll pick them. I've said to the lads in the dressing room that just because I signed them, that doesn't mean they are guaranteed a start every week, everything's up for grabs."
