Latics manager John Sheridan summed up the Latics performance against Preston by telling the official website, "I thought it was a very entertaining game. It was certainly one I wanted to win. In the dressing room before the game I told the lads to go out there and do their best to get their hands on those medals. It's something they'll look back on. You can't beat winning. I want this team to go on to pick up more medals and silverware. I thought we were the better team early on, and were the stronger side overall. Preston are a good side, and this game was a big defensive test for us. So I'm very pleased with the clean sheet . We defended well."

"Both Chris Swailes and Will Haining are very important players and are vital to the team. It's vital we keep them both fit and available for selection. I thought Eardley was very positive. He believes in his own ability, which I think is important, and he's not afraid to make mistakes. If he's willing to listen and learn, I think he's got a very bright future."
