Latics boss John Sheridan is looking at strengthening his team by dipping into the loan market during the next week or so. After the pathetic showing against Yeovil he confessed that he is hoping to bolster the squad with the addition of a striker and a defender. Athletic have been linked with Hull City's Dean Windass and Sheridan has shipped out John Thompson, JP Kalala, Chris O'Grady and Craig Davies which will free up wages and help finance any loan deals.

Shez said, "I've managed to get a few players out on loan, and they're going out to play regular football. Now I'm trying to get one or two in. I want to freshen things up and strengthen - I'm looking for someone who'll make us better as a team."
