Shuker next on the list

Barnsley star Chris Shuker (pictured) is the latest striker to be chased by ‘Man on a Mission’ Ronnie Moore. Barnsley are hoping to retain the services of the right-sided winger/striker who was formerly at Manchester City, but as Shuker is now a free agent he is prepared to listen to offers. Tranmere Rovers are also in the hunt and they are showing a lot of interest but ex-Latics legend Andy Ritchie has told Shuker to make up his mind quick.

Ronnie Moore commented, “We are definitely interested in Shuker because he’s the sort of player who can open doors when the game is tight. His wages would be a bit too rich for us at the moment, but we could still get him if other things fell into place.” The player only missed one league game last season but if Tranmere don’t offer too much he may be prepared to lower his wage expectations and the Latics could be in with a shout.

Ritchie has also revealed that Barnsley have been in talks with Wrexham about hit man Juan Ugarte, another player on Ronnie Moore’s shopping list. Ugarte fancies his chances in the Championship and Crewe and Coventry are interested but if that move fails to materialise Ritchie and Moore could be locking horns over a possible signing.

On another note, the chances of signing Luke Beckett seem to be over and a reluctant Alan Hardy said, “There has been a lot of speculation about Luke Beckett so I think it is only fair to let fans know that Sheffield United turned down our £150,000 bid for the player.” That could be the end of the speculation but you never know.
