Smalley told Latics World, "I'm glad to have everything sorted out and of course I'm delighted to be at the club for another three years. I know things have been going on for a while but it was simply a case of actually sitting down and getting it signed. I've loved every minute of this season and have made over 40 appearances, hopefully I'll make more starts and score more goals next year." "To be honest I didn't expect to play nearly as much football. I thought I'd be playing a lot of reserve games and just making the odd appearance off the bench. But I've had the opportunity to play against the big teams, and Everton in the FA Cup was something else. It was brilliant, especially because I got 90 minutes."
