Athletic eeked out a disappointing 0-0 draw in their friendly game at Southport's Haig Avenue ground. It was not a convincing performance as Southport at times outplayed the visitors. Chris Porter put in another good performance but he could have easily had a couple of goals but he squandered his chances.

Next up, and final pre-season game, is a visit to Gresty Road where the Latics take on Crewe Alexandra on 29^th. July. After that – it starts to matter!
