The Latics got off to a great start in their pre-season friendly at Stalybridge Celtic. Flouting the FIFA rules, the Latics used two different teams in each half of the match. Kelvin Lomax put the Latics in front after only six minutes, then there were chances for JJ and Scott Vernon. Matty Appleby was playing in his first competitive match for over a year and he looked good. JJ put the Latics two up in the 37th. minute when he finished a Lomax pass and it was all Oldham but the teams left for the half-time break with the score still 0-2 to the visitors.

The second half started much the same as the first half with the Latics dominating and it was no surprise when Chris Hall put them 0-3 up in the 50th. minute. The goal of the game was scored by Danny Forde (pictured) when he turned well to left foot a goal and make it 0-4. Rodney Jack pounced on a mistake by the Celtic keeper to score his first goal for the club, and they won’t come any easier. Ten minutes from the end, Hall missed another couple of chances. Stalybridge were restricted to a couple of chances and Brian Talbot should be pleased with the performance and will hope to build on it when he takes his team to play Nantwich on Saturday in a behind-closed-doors game.
