Stam suffers another setback

Stefan Stam could be out of action for another six weeks after he tore a hamstring during Tuesday's 3-0 loss at Port Vale. At the least, he will be gone for four weeks. Ironically, the big Dutchman had just fought his way back into the team. He impressed alongside Will Haining at the start of the season but the signing of Sean Gregan left him sidelined again.

Stam said, "Seriously, it's unbelievable. I went for a scan yesterday and it showed a tear, so that's me back on the sidelines. I felt it straight away but I tried to carry on and couldn't sprint. My leg went high up and I felt the snap. I just hope it's four weeks rather than six. I've been unlucky, there were no defenders left and then I got injured. I'd never had an operation or injury that kept me out but I got injured as soon as I got here. I don't know whether it's the food or the weather!"

"I just want to play, never mind the situation with the contract. If I hadn't been injured that many times, it would have been easier but it's a nightmare getting injured every time. It's the best team I've played in since I came here because there are good players, a good manager and it's a nice team in the dressing room. The style has changed since last season. It's more positive and I like to play in a team that passes the ball. It's what the manager wants us to do every time we get it."

The injury is another blow for John Sheridan who has already lost Earldey, Haining and Pogliacomi through suspended and Hall, Wolfenden, Woods and Rocastle through injury. Sean Gregan is also fighting to get fot for the visit of Bournemouth tomorrow.
