The Latics pre season friendly at Stockport was played in three sets of 30 minutes in which manager Ronnie Moore put out three different teams of 12 players. It was a useful workout and the new players are starting to gel together well. The County keeper had an outstanding game which had a big bearing on the scoreline, an insignificant point in a warm up game of this calibre.

Moore told the official site, “The result didn't go well for us but I thought the passing and movement was excellent. The disappointing thing for me was two crosses two goals, same old story. I was disappointed with the keeper and the discussions he made with the centre backs but, its stick or twist sometimes. It was our first real practice game and was good but I would have liked to have seen the strikers put a couple of the chances we had away. I basically put three different sides out. The first side were nice and strong and I was pleased with them. I don't think there's anything to worry about. Going to Middlesborough is now the big test for us. We've got to be strong. They will knock the ball about and if we're not sharp, they will cause us some trouble."
