Athletic will kick off at home to Stockport County on the first day of the new season. Currently without a manager, County`s immediate future is still under speculation and they are still unsure if they will be playing their home games at Edgeley Park. The Latics will follow up the league kick off with a trip to Leyton Orient and then they face Millwall on the following Tuesday. The fixtures have paired Athletic with their final home game being with League One newcomers Charlton Athletic on 8th. The big clashes with Leeds United will both take place on Tuesday nights, on 1st. December and on 23rd. February. Boxing Day will see the Latics entertain local rivals Tranmere Rovers. Huddersfield Town will travel across the Pennines to Boundary Park on 31st. October and the re-match will be on Easter Monday.

New boss Dave Penney is happy with the start to the new season and told the official website, "A local derby is a great way to start the season and staff, players and fans alike will all be looking forward to it. We're sure to have a good crowd and a good atmosphere and I know this fixture is one everyone looks for when the fixtures come out. We will be looking to get off to the best possible start on home turf, but Stockport will be saying exactly the same thing at their end. The fixtures coming out adds that little extra excitement for the supporters and everyone here is looking forward to the big kick-off on August 8th."
